PERFORMING ARTS STUDENTS ATTEND THE CREATIVE CAREERS EVENT AT THE LOWRY

In March, students from The Pendleton School of Theatre showcased their talents at the Creative Careers Event at The Lowry on Media City.

Our students prepared and choreographed a number of exciting performances, from singing a number of songs from a range of genres to dancing that involved a flashmob, and a snippet from the play, Nell Gwynn. Our students and teachers also led various workshops throughout the day, meeting potential new students wishing to pursue a career in the arts.

Kicking off the day with a flashmob full of power and energy, students performed both inside and outside the venue for the ultimate showstopper. Up next was a performance from our contemporary choir, led by Nathan Jarvis, Deputy Head of the Performing Arts Department.

The choir commenced with a joyful song of ‘Oh Happy Day’ by The Edwin Hawkins Singers, well known for the 1992 film Sister Act. The choir also performed ‘That Man’ by Caro Emerald, showcasing the outstanding layers of voices, and finished with the award-winning song ‘This is Me’ from The Greatest Showman.

We then moved onto one of The Lowry’s stages for a short performance from the production of Nell Gwynn. All of our students, from Musical Theatre to the Technical Theatre Production group, worked incredibly hard and the play was a remarkable success.

Following on from our amazing performances we moved over to the Melodrome stage where the chamber choir, conducted by Neil Bennet, Head of Centre of Performing Arts, performed gracefully even in the strong winds experienced on the day. The Melodrome then opened up, with some brilliant solo performances from three of our students including India Poulaud , Lucia Cochrane and Rachel Perrin.

The day was a fantastic success, our students relished in the opportunity to showcase their talents and abilities, and we engaged with a number of potential students.
