Pendleton Sixth Form College proudly presents an original dance production – Wonder Women: Origins of a Legend.

This is an exciting and fast-paced production from the dance students within the nationally acclaimed Pendleton Performing Arts Department, and the show is a must-see.

It tells the story of how Wonder Woman came to be. Before her superhero alter-ego was born, she was Diana, Princess of the Amazons, who lived on the idyllic and protected island, Themyscira. This is where she was trained to become an unconquerable warrior.

For those who aren’t familiar with the blockbuster film, which is Set in the 1910’s, during World War 1, Steve Trevor, an American pilot on a spy mission to infiltrate the German armed forces, crash lands into the ocean only to be rescued by the beautiful and strong Diana. Diana has no perception of the world outside of the magically protected island she calls home, and little does she know that the world is at war.

Diana is devastated to hear about the conflict within the world and leaves her home for the first time, in a quest to end all wars and bring peace to mankind. During this quest, Diana finally discovers her full powers and true destiny, and reveals herself as Wonder Woman.

Pendleton’s cast and crew are extremely enthusiastic to present an original dance adaptation of Patty Jenkins’ film version of Wonder Woman.

The vision for this production was to create a world that reflects the strength and power of the female form and to highlight the athleticism of dancers. Staff and students wanted to create a 3D cinematic experience through the use of media technology to set the landscapes of the scenes.

Wonder Woman explores the juxtaposition of human flaw and error versus human kindness and love, and how these qualities will prevail over evil. And in this adaptation, this is done through the medium of contemporary dance and physical theatre.

Elena- Rose Yenulevich, Dance Teacher at Pendleton Sixth Form College, said: “Staff are extremely proud of the cast who have had a mere eight weeks of rehearsals to generate, learn, embody and perform a full-length production created from scratch. This is unheard of in the professional world of dance.

“This has been an insurmountable achievement for all involved and a testament to the professionalism and dedication of the Pendleton students involved. It has been a pleasure to work with such creative individuals.”
